Clyde Erwin's O'Ambassadors were selected to participate in the pilot program, Community Connections. This program allows the students to focus on their own community strengths and needs and then share this and their actions with another O'Ambassador club. Clyde Erwin has been linked with the Betty Shabazz International Charter School in Chicago, Illinois. Through e-mails, and the sharing of Google mapping, the students from both schools will map businesses and local agencies that help the community in which they live. The clubs have a choice on which community they want to focus on - neighborhood, city, or county. The Clyde Erwin O'Ambassadors have chosen to focus on our county since the students themselves represent the many areas in Onslow County.
The Betty Shabazz school has been instrumental in helping a village in Africa to have clean water by raising money for a clean water system. The Clyde Erwin O'Ambassadors have also been helping people in Africa, particularly, Ghana. We look forward to expanding our community connections to include communication with our partners in Chicago about our global efforts, both in what we learn and how we pursue actions for positive changes.
